Parachromis read

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I sold my 13" melanura for $20 because I thought he was too big for the 6' 150g. He went to a better home and a 300g. And I plan on upgrading. This 150g is getting old, and want to replace it. A LFS near me has 220g tank, stand and lids on sale at times for only $900-$1000. That tank will be dedicated to the little guys, like thorichthys and a few others.

duanes duanes thanks, I joined the group. It looks like a great resource.

I agree with his assessment of the of the suitability of the Dovii as an aquarium fish even though I have one. I would imagine the only reason they are so available in the trade is the fact that they will breed at a relatively small size and have huge spawns. I imagine a lot of pairs end up in disaster, but spawn a number of times contributing thousands of fish to the hobby, before that happens. I always wonder how many large adult fish there are out there, but guess not many. Even though I am building a 96"x48" tank if the fish hits >24" it is going to be on the small side even for a single fish.

The Heroine Cichlid FB group may take some time to allow, its a process.
And the breakdown of Middle American Cichlids scientific .paper, is thru Vertabrate Zoology, although I believe it may be available at the Cichlid Room Companion site (Cichlidae.com)
which is accessible to members of the American Cichlid Association.

I was approved to join the group, and I was able to read the article. The distribution map of the smaller Parachromis spp. helped with my understanding of what I had heard for many years.

Best thing to do is join the Heroine ciclid group on facebook, besides the article I tried to post, Willam Heijns posts a lot of very important scieninfic articles on this clade, as they become available.
I realize most of FB is garbage, but this group is the exception.
