Just got a free Aqua-Tech 30-60

Hello; I also got one free a little over five years ago with a 55 gallon tank. It has been in constant use for me during the five years and I do not know how long it was in use before.
The only issues I have had is a noisy impeller assembly a few times. I used a couple of DIY "fixes" and have been able to get it to be fairly quiet. ( I created a thread about the fix some weeks ago.)

I have had the filter off the tank a few times for general cleaning a few times and did not notice that the motor assembly was able to come apart so it may be an older model.

As far as it goes I will likely buy another one based on the durability of this example and the fact that one is available as close as seven miles while a fish shop is near 660 miles away. Would not be surprised to find the price to be reasonable.

I have one of the original versions that has been running for close to 16 years. The newer ones are made with a motor assembly that is removable similar to aquaclear. I have found that the sealing ring on these newer ones will start to leak after they have been removed a few times.
other than that these filters are fine for smaller tanks.

For you fellas that have had leaking o-rings on the mag drives of newer HOB filters, do you remove the drives often? Do you guys use sand substrate?

Just trying to figure it out because I've never once had one of these leak on me. When I set them up new, I lube the o-ring with plumber's grease and basically never have to touch them after that. I've got some Aquaclears that have been running constantly for 4yrs. I've had other make/model HOBs too. Never a leak from this area.

Speaking for myself. The one I have just stopped working one day so I take it apart to clean it and get it going again. When I put it back together it leaked. At the time I had another filter an aquaclear so I put it on the tank and threw the leaking one in a box, Till I read this thread the other day. I siliconed it and it is still working fine now.
On another note I had an aquaclear impeller shaft get stuck to the impeller. So the whole thing started spinning instead of just the impeller and the stainless steel shaft drilled a hole straight through the back side of the motor! Never seen that happen before. No telling how long that took but it happen.

48 hour cure time sounds about right......that what the directions say? IDK, i was using Loc-tite for all these years not knowing it's not intended for tanks over 30 gallons, so i'm about to go try and cop a tube of that stuff P predatorkeeper87 was telling me about that can hold a Mac truck to the ceiling lol
RTV 108, stuff will hold your house up...literally.
