Heard Ray prices are going to increase substantially... true?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wild Caught rays out of columbia (specifically Marble Motoro) and Brazil (black rays pearl rays) will increase because of the cites listing. Peru stuff ( motoro and the otorongo stuff) should stay the same as well as captive stuff....
That being said everyone will still higher their prices due to the market regardless. I'm selling my 6" motoro male ray for 160$ and no takers lol captive bred

Yup, saw peru motoros on aquabid for $175 each...pretty fair price

The cost to process a CITES permit is around $400 USD. Thus, that will have to be factored into the price if you import from overseas. However, the permit price is the same for export of one as it is for the export of 100; if a store imports a single ray, that ray will go up by $400; if the store imports 20 rays, the cost will only go up by $20 per ray.

That is under the assumption that Columbia, peru and others will give out permits.
only time will tell what if any impact there will be.... in my opinion

Breeders have also been anticipating the CITES listing and may of increased production of CB rays and could actually bring down the CB prices.

It is not that simple, cut and dry. Prices are about to go up on all imported rays and not just by a few dollars per fish. Like diggin said permits may be scarce. That's going to make things worse.
