300 gallon setup/sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hahaha thanks for checking Woefulrelic...still going strong after our last exchanges on that topic. The replacement probe seems to have worked better for the Ranco...knock knock on wood.

Hey what? What do you mean lit back? Is that the new improved?

The newer model I listed in that thread had a new probe and a back lit LED panel. The old one im pretty sure didn't have it anyway. Its a faint blue glow that lets you see the temp when its hiding under the stand.

It can't hurt. There's a mix response but if it's really needed, but for an extra buck why not, right?

True

All looks good so far
I'm running the dct 12000 on my 220 and have been happy with it. It's great to have a pump and be able to adjust it to see what flow works for your setup.

Where did you order your tank from?

Ordered it from midwest customs.

What model number are you using ? Feel the ranco are reliable ?

Looking to get the ETCI-1R

Woefulrelic Woefulrelic forgot to mention it worked out fine. Atleadt i have another option instead of putting the purigen in the pond box which would have been a p.i.t.a to recharge

I purchased mine off amazon 4/21/16. I assume you will get the same or newer model if you were to order from the same. They aren't prewired and the probes aren't sealed, so you might want to go through etcsupply or jehmco.

Yeah i was planning on ordering from etc or jemco. You guys think the thermowell is worth it or shrink wrap is good enough. Doesnt seem like its too expensive. I would rather pay up than deal with having to fiddle with and replace the probe

For a heater controller check out InkBird. They are only about $35 on Amazon. The people over on SimplyDiscus give them great reviews and I really like the functionality of mine. Also, I believe the probe is waterproof out of the box and it is prewired with outlets. It is rated for 1000W.

Check out the 308 model over the 306 though. I have heard that the 306 has had some issues, but that the 308 is very reliable.

Will do thx for the tip

Made some progress hunting down supplies this week.

Ordered the etc heater controller, 3 inch clrear gate valve, 3d backround being shipped to midwest customs.

This stuff just arrived got some more purigen and 20L of matrix to add onto the two laundrey bags of already seeded bio.

And was able to get some of the pvc. Figure i would start at the sump level and work my way up. Just some unions and 3inch tee's reduced to 1.5 to attach to the gate. Want to put unions in as many spots as i can think of and be able to disconnect easily.

I was going to scrap the idea of using the pond boxes because i dont like have to reduce from my pump (1.5 inch) intake to the pond box inlet (3/4 inch) but love the idea of having the bio sit ontop and avoiding some bypass. So i cut a 2 3/8 hole (VERY SLOWLY) into the sides of the pond boxes and plugged the 3/4 inlet. Had to mess with a bunch of fittings at home depot but eventually found that a 2 inch trap adapter fits perfectly. The threaded portion sits almost perfect in the hole but
will add a little teflon tape to get it to sit a little more snug. Cap holds it in place and reduce down to 1.5 inches on the pump side. All i have to do is open the box the adapter slides right off, should make pump maintence a breeze.

Still need to order some tru union ball valves, loc lines (im think two half inch nozzles per return) ,check valves, and a 3 inch union to connect the gate to one of the tee's. Figure better add and not regret it later incase i ever need to get to the get valves.

Looking good, jaws! That 20L bucket of Seachem Matrix looks familiar...lol. I put all my Matrix in small laundry bags, too. Very easy to take out of a filter and dip them in some tank water to get the debris off. Keep us posted on your progress.
