New Aquarium Stocking Suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Go with one group of 8-10 tetras I would say.

Angels I would either go with a pair or group of 5 or so.

Gourami are probably best individually and are probably not best with a lot of other fish bioload wise

Khuli loaches and cory cats are both highly social and a group of 6 or more of one of these species is probably best.

Rams are probably the best out of those, but basically all of them need lower PH and soft water. Although I think those will work

That's my thoughts on the list :)

Still keeping that girlfriend, huh.....
Haha. Mine loves fish.

But I'm 15 so I need to worry more about my mums thoughts on my tank amounts than the GF. Lol

Hehe I think that's the best advice so far! Lol main reason she is upset is because I honestly just got into the hobby around 6 months ago. Since then I went from 0 fish to nearly 100. :) But I have always been the type to need something to keep me busy. And this has done the trick.
Haha. It's a good and rewarding hobby :)

I'm no expert but I would say 6 is a start. Enough space for them to disperse and claim small territories when they breed

Super!! Now can I mix up the species of the rams?? Or stick with one and have multiple?

I would say One. Makes life a bit easier and more interesting if they pair up :)

I wish my parents were so interested in helping me with a tank lol

Alright sounds like a plan.

So were doing 2 Angelfish
Group of 10 cardinal tetras
6 Khuli loaches
and lastly 6 Bolivian Rams as B Bandit87 suggested

Not sure if you have any experience with the catfish or the kuhli but I already have some substrate that is similar to sand but almost a crushed gravel. Would this be ok?

And I just redid my basement to put in 2 100 gallon tanks in the wall. One side is South American with 2 oscars, 2 jack dempsy, 1 green terror, 1 red terror, electric blue acara, and a firemouth. Of course I will have to upgrade the tank soon or get another one to house these fish. And then the other side is African tank with a mixture of around 35-40 mbuna cichlids.

I had a khuli but he commandoed his way through the overhead filter into the impeller. Also found his way into HOBS before through the output. Keep your filter intakes covered well. They like a smoother substrate to root through.

That SA tank will need a prompt upgrade since oscars grow scary fast. The others not so much afaik.

I currently have a 70, 15 and 5 in my bedroom. I'm replacing the 5 with a 10 soon as a QT and then for shrimp

Very Nice! How about the cory catfish? Would I be able to used the crushed gravel substrate with them? Or is it the same with them?

And yeah this is true the oscars have been taking off on size lately. Since I dont have the cash atm to get a new tank I added another filter. So I'm running a fluval 305 and a fluval 406 on the same tank to deal with the bio load atm.

For being soo young you seem to know quite abit about your fish. :)

I think that they wouldn't be best in that, they may wear their barbels. Maybe you should do some more research on their substrates.

Good thing you are upping things for the oscars :)

Fishkeeping is my passion and main hobby and I enjoy reading and researching about it. I have spent a year actively learning and giving out some knowledge on this forum. Only learning from the best. I like to know what I'm doing in fishkeeping and more
