New Aquarium Stocking Suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Driftwood white fuzzies are normal for new pieces. You can brush them off just before WC. It will go away eventually.
It goes away after a bit, nothing to worry about :)

Thanks! What would you two suggest I do as far as the nitrite? Frequent water changes? Or just let the tank do its thing? Eta for fish is 5 days Lol I'm now officially getting nervous. :(

If things have not sorted out in 5 days do WC's. for now hang tight since conditions are ideal for the nitrite consuming bacteria to establish

You can take any established filter media and simply squeeze it into the new tank water. You don't even have to access the filter. You don't even have to look at the filter. You don't even have to look at the filter and make funny faces at it.

Did you do this? If you did, you shouldn't have any nitrites.

Do it with like every single established piece of filter media you can get your hands on, you're not going to mess up your cycle with any other tanks by doing this.

And if you're still getting nitrites the day before your fish are due to arrive go out and buy a bunch of this:

77965.ashx

Some people question it, and rightfully so, and will disagree with me. I've had very good luck with it.

Will do. I was honestly avoiding the established media due to getting the pumps started again. Lol 2 of the 3 are a pain to get flowing again. But I will since it seems like the best shot of getting this cycled in time.

Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock..... Well for a update I'm still patiently waiting for the tank to cycle. Nitrite is still at high levels. Even after I rinse the pre established sponges in the tank and added some plants.. Luckily my LFS never got my fish in, Not that I'm happy about this. But it is a plus since the tank still isn't ready..
