How to get air out of canister?

I have a newly setup marineland 160, I have never owned a canister before. It is spitting out air bubbles you can hear them in the filter. It's also spitting out a dust like substance. What to do?

Tip the canister in different directions to allow the trapped air to work its way to the outtake. However, it may be that you have a seal issue, whereby air is getting sucked into the canister. The dust thing could be either fine bubbles or debris from filter materials

Why do you have two thread on the same issue?

Canister filters are a pain in the ass.
Whenever anyone asks, I do not recommend them, they are away too user unfriendly.
There is nothing remotely any different from a pressurized can, than a HOB except that the can is a PIA.

I have to agree. Canisters are the worst form of filter one can have.
