Please help! I have a black ghost knife fish in a grow out 55 gallon tank and it seems to be sick or something. You see, im 13 and i had to go to my brothers hockey tourtament this weekend, and i put it in my brothers tank. Which is also 55 gallons. We have the same water paraments (Ammonia 0 ppm nitrites 0 ppm nitrates 0 ppm ph 7.6) however, one of his angelfish died over the weekend and i believe that raised his ammonia, and im worried my bgkf has ammonia poison. I already did a huge 75% water change, but she is stll acting wierd. Shes trying her best to swim, but she can barely move. Its almost like shes crippled. My brothers tank has 5 angel fish a bristle nose pleco, and a small silver arowana( that tank is just for now the arowana will be going in a 180 gallon) i have 3 2in clown loaches and 4 3in silver dollars. Does anyone know what to do? I really dont want to lose this fish

I highly doubt that tank has 0ppm of nitrate. Along with that, killing and Angelfish is hard to do. That tank is likely uncycled, and, as you stated, the fish has ammonia poisoning. The best thing you can do is put the bgk into your 55, and cycle his 55 with a bottle of Seachem Stability.

This is off topic, but that arowana won't have enough room in a 180. It needs something along the lines of a 4-600 gallon tank to have enough room to swim. They're also good jumpers, so be prepared to have a lid for your tank.

That's about all I help with ammonia poisoning (if that's what it is), as I have never come across the issue in any extreme manor, so I never looked into how to fix it.

Have you fed her since you returned? Usually if they eat they'll be okay. Try some form of worms, like blood or black, preferably live or at least frozen.

When was the last time you tested your tank? You may want to do that considering you have one dead and one sick fish.

I suggest adding some Epsom Salt to the tank. If she is the only fish in there make sure to turn off the life and keep outside trafficking around the tank to a minimum. Try to not stress her out anymore than she is. Hoping the best for you.

Also if your tank is not cycled I recommend a bottle of Tetra Safe Start. Just follow the directions on the back of the bottle.

Pics help a lot. Also, a 55 is not big enough for a black ghost knife. Mine was almost 14 inches when I sold him, and I'm assuming your 55 is 12 inches front to back. They are slow growers, so he will be fine there for a good while, but will eventually outgrow that tank. Also, what exactly do you mean by "swimming at the bottom"? These fish typically stay at the bottom of the tank as it is. When they are stressed, they will flat out lay on the bottom of the tank like they are dead. I think this might be what you are seeing. They're like oscars, big babies.

Just saw your other thread. Sorry that happened to you man. Hopefully your other fish are OK, and it was an isolated incident.
