Mourning this Morning

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry for the losses man :(

On the upside you have moved to a wonderful place, I hope things improve for you

Thanks Hendre, much appreciated. If you could swing on over to Madagascar and scoop me some cichlids I'd be happy to have you over for your trouble.

Thanks man. I just read your thread about your recent polypterus purchase. I don't keep any now, but I fear I've been bitten by the bug. Fascinating fish.

They come in a couple hours! It's going to be all down hill from here lol I'll need a 210 gallon now.

That would be something. I'm not very clued up on madagascans apart from polleni.

Everyone is onto me for fish now lol

Not me........I want a meerkat
My uncle domesticated one that his dog caught, and now my one second cousin owns it. they need buddies and large spaces since they get a lot of mental issues when kept alone

Is a 180gallon enough space? Would they accept fish for buddies?

Oh my gosh! How devastating! I'm so sorry.

I'm happy for you that the polleni made it and several others, but that is quite a list. :(

I will be moving in a year or so, we will be going about 3 hours away. Is there anything you could advise to others as far as what we could learn from this terrible experience of yours? How long was your move?

Cabin in the woods sounds lovely.

I did a big move back in October was over a 2 hour drive.

I knew that if i didn't prioritize my aquarium I would have a similar experience to the OP. So my advice is to ensure that you pack up with the mindset that once you arive you are setting up a tank immediately with the basics of a heater and filter. Doesn't have to be big, or on a stand, or decorated. But do provide fresh water heater and filtration asap.

Don't feed for a 2-3 prior to the move and slowly drop tank temps. Pack fish properly in a insulated styro cooler or similar.

There are proper ways to pack fish and they can easily go 24 hours in a bag that is suitable. but obviously this is not ideal. Proper planning and care can prevent deaths during a move very easily.

Sorry for your loss.
