My polys

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am such a sucker for these green faranahs.
They are really cool but if i had to choose 1 lap it would be the koloton. I really like contrast of the kokotons tan/green colors.

Nice!

Yeah, I do love how the Kolotons are striped down the sides. That's why I like the PBBs. :) Are those two the only ones with the horizontal stripes vs. vertical?

I can't remember where, I think multiple places, where it's been discussed that the LJ size listings aren't accurate. Here is the info from the Beblondie sticky:

P. endlicheri endlicheri ('saddled' or 'red' bichir)- 32", possibly more
(subspecies)P. endlicheri congicus ('giant' or 'congo' bichir)- 39"
P. Bichir lapradei ('Lapradei' bichir)- 24"
P. bichir bichir-30+ ''
P.ansorgii-28-30+''

What about this would you disagree with?

Is there a thread on this I might be missing?

I know CB and WC fish are part of the factor, CB frequently smaller than WC...

Yes ppb is the best looking lap type for me !

Lap horizon lines from head to mid section.
Endli thick vertical bar
Congi thinner verical bars
Ansorgii checkerboard pattern (ugly face lol)
Im soure the others can add to this. Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86

+1, the ansorgii imo is in between lap and endli pattern, for some reason the middle part pattern of the ansorgii looks like a lap, it look like a horizontal lines with dots in between, top part looks like a vertical pattern bu breaks cause of the horizontal pattern in the middle thats why it look like check board pattern, thats just what i noticed with my polys.

great question! I was wondering about the lap, ansorgii, and endli endli max size. IWhat is the max size for these 3?

it's hard to believe that they don't grow larger than ornates. Maybe the Beblondie sticky was referring to WC ornates?
BeBlondie is legendary. Love her stickies. First thing I read on MFK. Actually how I found MFK in the first place.

Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 , how do I tell the difference between these two laps? Koloton is tan/green dark one. and then one on the left is koliba? nigerian lap?

Black volta settled in nicely

BV on left. Is that an endli or a congi on the right? Looking at the head, can't tell if those are diamonds or racing stripes.

Imo koloton have more darker green/grey patterns, base color is more tan/brown, which nigerian is more lighter green or grey with light green base color, but still depends on the substrate. Body type imo koloton are more slimmer vv nigerian are fatter, head shape imo nigerian have short snout while koloton have alittle pointier snout. Pattern imo nigerian have more vertical pattern in the middle part of the body toward the tail similar to PBB and koloton have less.
But i think that the harizontal pattern of the koloton are more longer pattern than the nigerian lap. Does are just my opinion but i might be wrong cause i dont have any koloton yet. Chrck the picture below and compare for yourself.
