Hey guys so by accident posted my question in the wrong area so I thought I would bring it here. I recently purchased a used 120 with a sump from a friend. I have a 75 right now with peaceful american cichlids 1 chocolate, 2 firemouths, and a blue acara. My question is since I bought the tank off my friend who is getting out of the hobby it comes with his stock. I have been researching on the inhabitants however and I am a little worried. The stock is 1 female con, a male and female salvini, and a male Red dragon Flowerhorn. He has had thee guys as tank mates for about 6 months. However after doing some research I am unsure if this stock will work long term. I have made caves for the sals to feel secure in. The female con follows the flowerhorn around like a lost puppy. Going forward what would you guys advise is this stock ok open to ideas. Thanks

Welcome to MFK :) I would keep an eye on the Severum and Acara due to the more aggressive CA cichlids.

leave it alone unless something bad happens. if it isn't broke don't fix it. You got 2 tanks to try different mixes if something doesn't work out. It sounds ok for now, but the FH may get huge and aggressive later on down the line if it's a male so that would be my concern. Just keep an eye on them and everything should be ok. Stick to building caves and hide-spots - each fish should always have 2-3 caves to choose from, so if you got 4 fish in each tank, make sure you got 12+ caves, but 16-20 would be better.

I had a flowerhorn that was literally a deranged psycho killer. Never had anything like it. But, I've also had ones that were no more aggressive than your usual cichlid in a community. It really depends on the fish. Every fish is unique! Just keep your eye on them.

Your convict might be trying to breed with the flowerhorn. Can you sex them?

I have had a 3 inch convict and her 4 inch male pin 10+ large cichlids at one end of the tank during spawning. It was insane. They are badass. They are also a little nippy if you try to clean the tank whilst they are breeding. They kinda hurt a little, it's cute.

+1 Frank Castle Frank Castle . Sound advice, and I agree. If it ain't broke...

The FH is my worry and I the sals maybe a pair unsure. The con is for sure a female fh has a slight bump but I am still unsure. Fran is this better for "caves" or am I way off.

it's not bad, but it could be better :D Check out my thread if you want to see what i mean....i have pics from over a year ago until current , some of the tanks are heavily decorated to provide cover, as i like to over-crowd my grow-out tanks since they are only temporary.

I see so you use even the width of the tank for caves. How much less agression do you see?

Ok I threw some more rock and driftwood in. Best I can do for what I have available. Few things I have noticed which is nice my dithers have all moved higher up in the tank, both sals are out alot more. Down fall the Fh is pacing like a psycho back and forth up and down on the glass. All while the stage 5 clinger convict chases it wondering why the FH doesn't love her..

minimal if any. Amateurs try telling me i'm taking away their space to swim and that's just ridiculous. It's pretty much mandatory in cichlid community tank. Even in pairs there should always be hide-spaces just big enough for the female and too small for the male to follow her into. People call me unorthodox, but I have accomplished things w/ South and Central Americans most people have not - apparently so unbelievable to the point i have even been called a LAIR LMAO.
