Tank mates for top of tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was gonna say Apollo shark too.

Thats like buffet for polys:D

Especially when they are idiots like the last batch. The 3 adult mollies in the bunch actually tried schooling with my albino sengalus and even though they were to big for him to eat at the moment it didn't stop him from trying and them all dying from the injuries within a couple days. The good thing is the baby mollies were smarter and only 2 have been eaten in the last 2 weeks

Wow thanks for all the replies, that was fast.
So far I think the silver Apollo will do good. I read that the Freshwater/characin gar can get to a impressive 30"!
Pink tailed chalceus looks like it could be a good candidate, though I have never seen one in any LFS.

Still looking for ideas.

Depending on tank size, florida gar is pretty solid... they mingle with the polys well and spend a lot of the time mid/top of tank. They don't dart around too much so they don't freak out the polys either. Again that is totally dependent on the tank size, Floridas stay a tad smaller than the other gar varieties usually

Apollo sharks look very majestic in a group.

Characin gar won't reach 30" in any home aquarium.

Not sure what size tank or the poly type u have. Pink tail chalceus, Tuscan Fish, African butterfly, and apollo sharks are really the only type of characin that would work with larger polys.
