8x3x3 tank - acrylic thickness help

Hello everyone,
I have been doing some researching on the appropriate thickness for a tank that is 3' tall and most calculators have the thickness at 1.25-1.5" thick. I could be reading that wrong and wonder what you all think. I have seen a few 3' tall tanks made out of 3/4" acrylic and wonder if you all think that is fine or is it risking failure at that height.

I've seen a couple with 3/4 but they were bowing in the middle. I would go with 1 inch. It's not super expensive either...
