Any issue with doing Nics and maculipinnis? Sounds like the nics would also appreciate being in a larger group?
Yes, I think a group of 8ish Maculipinnis and then a single nic and robertsoni should be a good stock.I normally like to keep groups, but in the case of these would I be better off with a large group of the maculipinnis and then some singles (nic, robertsoni, etc..)?

Jack Dempsey (normal or electric blue) would also be a good choice. Females of some of the less aggressive vieja's could work (melanura, regain) , though it may be hit or miss. There are plenty of south americans that would work, if you don't care about sticking with CA. With centrals, there aren't too many " peaceful" species

I would not put a JD or Regani in the group you have.
I have kept all except the Thorichthys, and find therm all to be on the peaceful side, except the regain and the JDs. My only caveat is, that the lents should have a fairly heavier flow (current) than might be preferred by the others that come from more placid waters.
That said, the lents might gravitate to higher flow spot, in the tank as territory.
I also find keeping the species you want in groups seems to tame aggression a bit, but keeping them as individuals often leads to high dominance personality. So in the end as they grow with proper group stocking the tank may get crowded if too many species are involved.
regain above, nic below, my experience with regain is a 125 is just too small to contain their territorial side
