Nice,looks like a Megaladoras?

Yup :D an irwini K krichardson . I think you used to have one too right?
Yep,I actually had three of them at different times.

IME it can vary. Among my 6 all grew equally to about 1' (took a year or so) but then I placed them in 4500 gal and only one today is about 20" while the rest are still 14"-16".

I think they'd do better if they are never stressed / test-tasted by tank mates, in dim lighting and a place to squeeze into (hint lean a large flat rock against the glass to see them).

That was pretty much how I kept mine;dim to dark unlit tank with a huge rock to hide behind until they were ready to come out and forage.

A 20" one must be quite the sight to see. At small sizes they're basically just like an overpriced Raphael cat imo

Oh damn they need dim lightning? Hmmmm. I'll work on that. Thank you so much for your advices thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter and K krichardson .

They are basically like larger raphael catfish, except when very large, they may lose the need to hide if the tank is dim or altogether. So I'd read up on them and also on the raphs if I needed more info. Other large Doradids like Pterodoras granulosus and Oxydoras niger are not like them, they don't hide / are ok without a hide plus Oxydoras are very active.

In due time, if God is willing.
