Sump for 8x3 tank

Sorry if it's abit vague I've had no sleep ha I'm planning to do the barrels like how Uarujoey (if that's how you spell it) tank will drain in to the first barrel being mechanically filterd first then into k1 then pass through a 3 inch pipe then into the 2nd barrel where it's heated then pumped back to the tank
 
Ok, well.maybe se people that have done diy overflows or used store bought ones can help you out. This is a hurdle to over come :) goodluck
 
Drill the tank. It sounds a little big to be doing DIY overflows. Pumps will be pretty big, lotta water moving around. If your overflow loses siphon, your pumps will flood the tank, and that's gonna be LOTS of water on the floor in your house.

I've just ordered my new tank, 7.5 x 3 x 2.5 for rays and having a custom built glass 4 x 2 x 2 tank for a fluidised bed.

It has a settlement chamber first, then sponges, and then area to hold the media, then a section for a return.

It's basically the design of the king of diy one on YouTube, ( the new design for acrylic tank, not the barrel design) but with a settlement chamber first to catch most of the huge rays poop and save cleaning sponges as often lol

I was considering this for my new tank, but....

The 55g barrels are over 3ft tall, so that will be a very high tank to fit underneath the stand? You.ll also struggle seeing into them/ doing Maintenance due to the height.

They are 2ft in diameter also but obviously as they're a circle, you lose all the water volume in the corners. I'd go for a square tank as will use up the same footprint under the tank as the barrel would, but you can get away with a shorter tank as will hold more water as a square than a round barrel, so you won't have to have a crazy high tank?
