My first true monster

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
great looking fish and good size.

Like others said is a risk. It only takes one night. With that said you have to come to that conclusion yourself. I personally put a very high value on all living things and wouldn't risk it. But i understand everyone is different and my opinions is sometimes to extreme for everyone to come to terms with.

I just hope he works out for you and your other fish. Good luck.

Please keep the thread updated as I for one am very interested to see if your comm works out long term. best of luck!

Everything is still going well. The Mota is still calm, and none of the fish are showing signs of damage. As of yesterday, to the Pleco's disappointment, the Mota ate only Algae wafers. Today he switched to Hikari Gold. I'll continue to feed him this until I get Massivore.

Nice looking fish but when he turns, be prepared for less fish in the tank. GL

My salvini took a week to settle in before beating on fish over twice his size, non cichlid ones too. Can't wait to sell him.

Personally I wouldn't take the risk

Edit: wait this is a mota, you're playing with fire here

All of the fish in my tank prefer the right side of the tank, as it has the least flow. When the Mota found the tree root decor on that side, he claimed it as his territory, and forced the fish to the other side. This caused more aggression than the first few days, along with changing the other fish's behavior. A couple days ago I moved the decor to the left side of the tank, along with the pot, and a few other pieces I had from old tanks. After moving the decor, he followed with it, and the other fish returned the right side of the tank. The Mota is showing nearly no aggression towards the other fish now that he rarely sees them. The fish are all acting more like themselves, especially the Blood Parrot, who's acting less depressed.

(She's a handful. I had to buy her tennis balls to roll around after she nearly burnt out the motor in one of my filters with an airstone)

Aaahh man we're still lamenting about the aggression geez. Op is aware of the risk. GL nice fish. No better way to learn than through experience.

I have a male Rtm in a 150 gallon ....I have only kept him thus far with a female Rtm and a pleco....just with the pleco at this time as I have separated them due to them fighting excessively..I think the advice given so far is correct.,...typically you see people keeping Rtm as pairs in tanks in the size range of mine....however apparently in tanks larger( in that 200 plus range) I would think it MAY be possible to establish a setting with other aggressive or large cichlids, that the rtm might not challenge and with enough to disperse aggression..... seem like I run across you tube videos with people that have large tanks with a bunch of cichlids and an Rtm mixed in there(video not mine)......for sure it would take trail and error and money and probably some fatalities to achieve .....

Here is mine .... he's all by his Lonesome with a pleco and 150 gallon tank as far as any additional advice I feed him massivore, Omega one veggie pellets that are meant for the pleco but he eats ,freeze dried krill, cut pieces of raw tilapia and shrimp... mine is a constantly voracious eater always on the lookout for food...

Mine is basically the opposite. After redecorating the tank, he's left the otherror fish alone, and he only eats when I'm not around the tank.
