My first true monster

He will start eating stuff pal, parachromis are very predatory like Oscars. Anything that fits in his mouth remove asap imho.
For their sake.
Don't be surprised if he does take the whole tank, rtm at that size generally are more aggressive than dovii. Some say they are the most aggressive species hands down.
Tbf I couldn't care less if he whacks your whole tank, I've just said what I feel will happen pretty soon.

I'll start setting up the spare.

Good choice pal.

It is a risk, but you may be OK given the large tank size and since there are no potential mates for him in the tank. Keeping the temp a little lower may help. If he goes postal the angels will get shredded.

On price, the market is limited with adult big cichlids. Also, he is probably too big to consider shipping. Your best chance for a decent price will probably be in the Atlanta area due to the higher numbers of people. I think you would be lucky to get $100 unless someone is really wanting one, or makes an "impulse buy". Might try craigslist. If it were me I would be keeping the mota and posting the angels and certainly the hybrid parrot on craigslist!

From what I've seen, Atlanta prices on fish tend to be a lot higher than other places, which is where I got the previously stated price.

Currently he's being no more aggressive than my Angels or Firemouths. He occasionilly chases away a fish that's in his territory, but nothing major. He actually seems to pay the Angels less attention than the other fish.

Time bomb.
I would remove all your other cichlids if you care about their future well being.

Like others have said, there is a pretty good chance he will kill everything, but there is also a chance he will be fine. Anything that fits in his mouth will probably be eaten, but in that size tank, if he really is just a shy individual, you might get away with it. If you did want to sell him, he is not too big for shipping. I have received 12" fish in the mail. You would just have to pack him carefully. Best of luck man

He's been rather shy so far. He swims to the back corner (whichever is closest) when I walk towards the tank. I haven't noticed any damage on my fish, and I've had him for about 20 hours now. The most he's done is chase the Severums from his newly claimed territoty, but even then he's not very aggressive about it. He usually turns around after chasing the fish for a few inches.

It will take a week or so for him to settle, I wouldn't say not if but when.
Just build a divider ready.
Very slim chance of it working I guess...
