Hi , I just ordered vieja melanura from Mr Jeff - I can't find enough information about vieja melanura- can I anyone give me ideas how to care it ? What kind the food I have to feed? Thanks IMG_9922.JPG

It's always best to research fish before buying them.
Melanura like hard water with a high ph. In my opinion they need a tank of at least 200 gallons.
Males can reach around 16 inches.
They are mostly herbivorous and require some vegetable matter on their diet, you can also offer foods like prawns and pellets.A very greedy fast growing fish and one of the most peaceful of the veija group.

I fed my same melanura that i got from Jeff a staple diet of southern delight power feed and southern delight veggie krill with nls here and there. Also gave them some peas. Got mine back in October and one of my males look like this. Very fast growers. These melanura from this location seem to be a bit more fiesty too but not too much.

I got him at about 1 inch back in October too just for your reference to get a good idea what they're growth rate can be like. I do a lot of water changes and feed heavy during their young days and still do basically the same now

Vieja melanura until recently were common called synspillum, so you will find plenty of info (all apropos) under the synspillum moniker.
I agree with the other comments, they are primarily herbivorous so a pellet high in Spirulina
is a good idea, and preferably a tank at least 6 ft long. The last ones I had (a group of 6), grew about 1" per month, feeding on NLS Algaemax, peas, dandelions and romaine, with lots of partial water changes (my WC routine was @ 30% every other day).
