Dovii X Rose Queen hybrids

When should I start to feed them? I bought frozen baby brine shrimp and plan to melt it and pour it in the tank on top of the slate so the RQ can pick it up in her mouth and spit it onto the babies. Is that the best way of going about it. How will I know once there egg Sachs are completely gone or will they start swimming immediately after the egg Sachs are consumed? Also how long will that process take roughly. And if they survive what would be a good price to start selling them at cuz I have no idea.

They will start free swimming in about 3 to 4 days, I would wait to start feeding them till then, at least that's what I did with my Midas fry, are you planning on moving them to a grow out tank?

They eat their own egg sack for 24-36 hours after that they need to be feed. I feed them several times before they are old enough to swim on their own, which is usually 24-48 hours after their egg sack are consumed. Baby brine shrimp is a perfect first food but the process that worked best for me for feeding babies is to melt the brine shrimp in some aquarium water in a cup and suck it up in a turkey baster. Then lower the turkey baster to just above the pile of wiggles and gently squirt the mixture of top of them. This ensures the babies eat and not just the parents. The mother and father might attack the baster but thats totally ok.

If you want to ensure a higher survival chance, I'd siphon most of them out and put them in another tank...just in case mom/dad eats them. I usually remove the eggs on whatever they're on at the first sign I know they've been fertilized. Easier to care for the fry and it's a pain removing the free swimmers later.

Nice project...best of luck!

They'd dev attack that baster. They attack my hand threw the glass, my mag float and rip it off the glass and anything that gets within 1-2ft of them. My Atapabo 1 pike has been plotting on those babies since he saw eggs but the Dovii and RQ stop him every try. It's very interesting to watch and I'm excited to see the out come. Is it possible to keep them in the 220 with there parents until there about 1.5-3in and then but them in my friends 75 or should I put them in a 20long asap?

Let's say they survive in the 220...imagine the amount & frequent water changes in such a big tank. It's always more enjoyable to watch the parents raise their fry but the amount of wastes produced by all the fry will be continuous, tedious work...been there, done that. That's why I raise any fry in a smaller, bare bottom tank with a simple sponge filter...for the ease of feeding & cleaning.

I'd remove most of the fry and leave a few for the parents to raise...just to see what kind of parents they become.

this is the second day after they have hatched should i feed them the baby brime shrimp tonight or should i wait a little longer to make sure the egg sachs are eaten also if i put the brime shrimp in and they don't eat it can that cause harm to them cuz of the water quality?

i think i feed them correctly although i didn't notice them moving to get any food and once i squirted the water+baby shrimp solution into the water as close as i could get to the fry i couldn't tell where it went. Im gunna try and get a 20G long for the fry and would it be ok to syphon them out using a gravel vac into a bucket then pouring them into a 20???

Any update on this?
