Last night I caught a couple of videos of what looks very much like spawning behavior.

The problem is that my two males were the ones doing it. The female was hanging out by herself. ;)

Even if it were a male/female combo there is no way that fry would survive in my community. Just posting to see if anyone can confirm it, and just to show others as I find this kind of thing fascinating and thought you guys would, too.

This is the "other end" of pt. 1, so they are mirroring each others' behavior.
Watch for a Palmas Polli photobomb about 1:30ish into this one. :)

Thanks! OK so they're just really gentle in their dominance behavior. I'll have to edit the video title/description. Nothing like cichlids.... ;)

Ropefish:
"Hey, Noodle1. I am more badass than you." *smiley nudge*
"No way, Noodle2, i can clearly see that my anal fin is larger than yours." *smiley nudge*

Cichlids:
"I AM MORE MANLY AND I WILL HARASS, SHRED, AND KILL YOU TO DEMONSTRATE THIS!!!"

They not mating at all, they trying to figure out who is more dominant.
oh. whoops. They play pretty rough then. Hopefully their mating isn't like that. :p

They trying to establish who's the boss.
no wonder people view ornates as aggressive! They are still cute though :p
