Can any one explain mechanical, chemical and biological filteration in detail?

Mechanical: removes physical solid particulate matter from the water such as poop and leaves

Biological: facilitates the nitrogen cycle

Chemical: absorbs and removes complex compounds such as tannins from the water, as well as medication

Reactions: Yuki Rihwa
Mechanical filter media :Sponge
Chemical filter media: Activated carbon
Biological filter media: Ceramic rings

Am i right?

Yes. I use sponge then floss for mechanical then ceramic for bio.

Chemical is generally not necessary with enough water changes apart from to neutralise meds

I have arowana I use top filter in that sponge for mechanical and activated carbon for chemical and ceramic rings for biological.Do I need to change water weekly 20% other than that ?

Hendre hit it dead on.

mechanical PHYSICALLY removes solids and particulates from the water.

biological creates a home for our friends the nitrifying bacteria.

chemical absorbs chemicals in the water to be removed.

yes...you don't even need the carbon at all unless you are getting rid of medication in the water.

water changes are 100% necessary unless you have a drip system in place. Where do you think all the nitrates go once they've been converted? and you should be doing a 50% change weekly, not 20%.

50% at least, the filter doesn't remove Nitrate which can be harmful in high amounts. You must test to check how much there is to determine your water change amounts

Mechanical part of filtration would be anything used such as filter pads, filter floss, and cartridge 's to remove solid particles from the water.
Chemical would be products that help keep parameters in order like for instance Seachem prime is added to aquarium before tap water is added to remove chlorine which can kill the live bacteria in your filter and on subtrate, ornaments, driftwood etc.
Biological is the most important part of the filter and a must have . Live bacteria is produced by the nitrifying cycle where they grow on bio-media such as sponges, biomax, lava rocks, plastic pot scrubbers, bio balls just to name a few. The live bacteria convert ammonia into nitrite and nitrite is then converted into nitrates. The bio-filtration must be enough to support the bio-load of the fish in your aquarium if not enough it will not sustain life in the aquarium properly.
