Need help with water perimeters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The powerhead is rated at 530 gph at Hmax 1.8m and is sold in combination with an unbranded protien skimmer. Not sure what kind of flow you would actually be getting out of your return, but probably less than 300gph. I agree adding cans until you can rework your plumbing and run a higher output pump would be the quickest route to solving the ammonia and nitrite issue. You already have lots of ceramic media you can add to the canisters from your sump.

Agreed 100%. My concern is if the OP adds a larger pump the overflow can't take the flow. The current stand pipe is actually a return. In fact that might be a 3/4" pipe. The one behind it needs be opened up if a new pump is added. A couple cans can easily solve this without messing with the sump.

The sump isn't doing much as is so if it is going to continue to be used, some upgrades are in order.

We actually talked about this exact tank/sump not to long ago. Op was planning on redesigning it. I'll go dig it up

Everything that needs to be done as already been mentioned by everyone. I'm just amazed that you've any fish left, that water is toxic on every parameter. You could stick that water in a dirty bomb and it would be classed as a weapon of mass destruction!! If i was you i'd sell the baby and concentrate on my tank, i mean us hobbyists we all have to prioritise right!!

Hope you get this under control soon, buddy - you got some really great advice and it sounds like you're on your way. This forum rocks.

Are your polys doing OK so far?

Silly babies, interfering with life and getting in the way of your hobby. ;)
