Ideas on stocking a 125 with my first Bichir

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
PS- huge kudos for researching before you even have the tank!

I agree don't do what I did and stick a bichir in a community breeding tank oops where did those 50 fish go they were here last week? lol

Wetspot got gold dust, palmas palmas, and teugelsi. That's it so far. Others seem to be gone.

they have a mokelembembe that I really wanted but just couldn't justify the price

How do you feel abiut cb endlicheri ? They have awesome patterns and could live in that sized tank. Wetspot also has cb koliba (i think)

they have both

I only had 1 aggressive endli out of the 5 or 6 that ive kept. Infact ive had more aggressive upper jaws than lower jaws.

I dont know why they have this rep lol

So with that, is it smart to have one with other smaller poly's like senegals, dels, or marbleds?

edit: and jaws ninja'd my question with it's answer. Thanks! you guys are definitely making it harder to choose which poly's to go with

If it were me would go with what you like. Unless your real lucky...like lotto lucky someone is gonna throw a curve ball at you maybe a poly, maybe the choc or the rainbows but someones gonna be an idiot when they start to put on some size its just the nature of comm tanks. Cb endli are no more aggressive than any of the fish your thinking of.
Del's are great one of my all time favs but im sure somewhere out there theres a del witha bad attitude.

Oh yeah. I mean that's a given. My plan now is not what it's going to be once I get there. My honest bet would be that it's the BP that's going to ruin it for this plan. My 75 was originally going to be a BP tank and then I decided to trade out 1 BP for a gold sev. Well when the BPs started beating up on the sev I ended up rehoming the BPs because I liked the sev the best.

I just ask because I'm completely foreign to the majority of these fish. Especially on the poly side. I wanted to make sure putting an endli in with senegals or dels wasn't like throwing a jaguar cichlid in with a few keyholes..and not just the endli, any of the fish I was going for.

Oh no doubt your doing the right thing. Also probably was bad advice on my part. I wouldnt keep a full grown endli with a sen so sorry i forgot aboit the sen. My sen is stuck at 5ish inches so others may have a different opinion

Alright well thank you for the heads up. That's too bad because the endli was starting to grow on me but I definitely want to try a senegal (at least 1) for the activity. And the dels are so nice looking that I'll need one of those. I'm still at a loss for what i want to do for a 3rd (and potential 4th) but those marbled are looking pretty nice as well.

Polli! Polli! Polli! Or Moke. ;)

I have a Moke. He is gorgeous and mine is active and not super shy, but so many others are.

If you want a poly that is less common, really cool looking, but you are ok with the fact that you mayyyy not see it as much, I totally recommend a Moke. You can look at my thread "Udon, Soba, and the Noodles" for pics and videos of him. (And my Del, Ropes, and Polli).

I always have to google "saddled" "marbled" etc. ;)

Palmas Palmas are also really nice looking. I had one that was WC and aggressive- probably a fluke. I rehomed it, but it was really pretty.

Thank you for the suggestion magpie magpie . I checked out your thread and that Moke is stunning! I really like the greens on him/her.

When I'm typing on my phone, it's easier to say saddled or marbled than spell out endlehoweveryouspellit. but on the pc it's no problem. So i'll probably switch back and forth.

Really what I want is the majority of the 3 or 4 bichirs to be pretty active. So that's why i'm leaning towards senegals/albinos. I know i want a del because they look awesome but really I'm going for activity outside of the del. So maybe senegal/albino, del, and polli/marbled to start out with?

Ugg on a completely unrelated note, I thought I had tracked down a source for heterospilas. I have a pretty good relationship with trinsfish.com and they said they were on their "available fish list" so they were going to order some in. Well apparently their "source" didn't have them and just put some other random cichlids in there to make up for it. Oh well. Here's hoping on wetspot or me coralling enough folks locally for a cota order.
