I've caught some channa striata juveniles! They're about (more than) 3 cm in length. I have been feeding them live fishes (gouramy juves, small shrimps and even c. lucius juves!). I want to teach them to eat pellets, but they refused to eat them. How can I teach them to eat it? Btw, I fed them using betta's pellet.

In my experience simply not offering anything else works ,they might hold out a week or 2 but they'll eat anything when hungry .

If starvingfor done reasondoesnt work then start with crickets or some other floating live insects , get them surface feeding that and then ad or switch to pellets once they get used to it.

Oh. Haven't tried those method. I'll try it then ;)

I've tried crickets, but they won't eat them (maybe too large to swallow). Haven't tried grasshopper tho. What insects do they eat other than cricket and grasshopper?

Btw, is it okay to feed it betta pellets? Will it grow properly? I think it is formulated to give best colour to the betta.

They'll outgrow the betts pellets very quickly but won't hurt as starter.

They'll eat any insects at all, right now they are probably just taking advantage of the fish offered. Give them a week with no food and they'll probably eat anything that hits the water without even looking!

I think it is hard to feed them live insects as they know how to escape from the water. Usually when I feed them with crickets, the crickets would definitely jump away and escape from the water. Is there any way to feed live insects without letting them escape?

Anyway, I will try fasting them for a week or less.

Very very quickly ! Channa grow faster then any other species I've worked with

Lol thats not really accurate. How long will it grow in a month assuming it is healthy and fed regularly?

Sorry for being so persistent. ;) i just love snakeheads when i was still a wee child, but this is the first time i get to keep snakeheads as pet as my parents prohibit it :(

Assuming care and proper feeding you can expect several inches a month until they hit adult size, 16+ inches in the first year old can easily be achieved without over feeding .

16+ inches in a year?! Thats so quick! So its not long until i have some big snakeheads :)

Btw, i have 4 of them. My friend said that it isnt good to keep them that many (he keep a pair of striata, a sibling). Why is that? He said that they will fight to death.

Been 3 days since i let them fast. Still no luck. :(
