Is this a male Escondido texas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Clean water, kosher salt, quality food, is all you need for now. Just follow my previous directions, don't waste your money or put your fish or filters through the stress of anti-bacterial meds, when no bacterial infection is showing. There are currently no "fin rot" issues with this fish, it just needs to have it's natural immune system kick in now that it has been removed from it's previous stressful environment. In other words, KISS.

I advised the Hex-Shield & PraziPro as I treat all fish coming in from parts unknown, especially when showing a slightly concave stomach.

Thanks for both of your help. I appreciate everyone's input very much. I'll just give clean water and observe for a bit. He is swimming around and exploring. He doesn't seem ill. He does look beat up a bit. He isn't eating yet but I just got him yesterday so that seems pretty normal for all of the big fish that I've gotten.

Just getting him out of that LFS tank will help the healing process.
Post back in a few weeks with an update. Good luck!

I also bought a vieja hartwegi from the same lfs in the same tank a few weeks ago. It was also beaten up and missing a chunk of her head and it healed up in one week after I brought her home. Her fin were also torn and slowly regrowing.

Pic doesn't do justice of how bad it looked.
