Yeah, I was surprised because right up until the fry started free swimming he was trying to court with her. It caught me off guard.
I don't think I'll put her back.
I think I will keep the tank for the pair, which I'm totally okay with.
I may try my luck with dithers again. These two are ignoring the bleeding heart Tetras I put back in when I pulled the other two GT's.
Not sure if I will add more BH's or try something different.
Since my Siamese Algae Eaters died/were killed I am noting a lot more black hair Algae. I may get two more SAE's and a trio of rose line sharks / Denison barbs.
Not sure yet.

A different type of tetra might be nice. I like the idea I'd barbs too.
Since adding my kids glofish in with mine I'm liking the idea of possibly adding some black skirt tetras. Just to have a little more movement in the tank. I've gone from hating the glofish to enjoying seeing them swim around. Haha

All my cichlids ignore the black skirt tetras and they look awesome swimming in a school they match my black sand quite nicely
I heard they are a hardy tetra as well so far I like them I want at least another four
The other day I noticed 3 of the Sterbai Corydoras acting strange, chasing all over the tank a tight group.
Never seen that behaviour before.
Came home today and found eggs stuck all over the glass. They weren't in a big patch or anything, just small clumps here and there. I counted 30 or so and then my Son pointed out s bunc more on the back and side.
Anyhow, had to go to run club tonight so I couldn't do anything with them and when I got back from the track I saw the bushynose plecos on the glass going to town.
So no more Cory eggs.
But it was pretty exciting nonetheless.

Not only that, but Leia was looking a little beat up.
I guess Bruce got hungry during the 3 day fast because I came home and the two Bleeding Heart Tetras were looking worse for wear.
I also witnessed Bruce sneak up and bite scales off them. I couldn't believe it. The Tetras didn't even try to escape or flee until after he nipped them - and did it more than once.
So yeah, he's a bit of a turd. I may set-up my auto feeder the next time I go away. He seems pretty lazy if he's well fed.
I also noticed that his nuchal hump has gotten bigger again.

Question about his nuchal hump- have you noticed it being more pronounced the weeks leading up to spawning but then it seemingly goes down after the spawning?

I noticed his hump appear almost overnight several weeks ago when he assumed dominance of the tank (I believe that is what happened).
Back then I had all 5 GT's in the tank and there was no spawning behaviour at all.
All of a sudden Bruce was the biggest fish in the tank and he had a hump.
I'd have to go back and check this thread or my log book, but I believe his hump went down after I removed the other male.
It did not appear larger until now.
I do believe he wants to spawn again now. I also believe more females and a bigger tank would be better overall.
However, I think with my set-up things will improve soon enough. Bruce is quite a bit bigger now, and in time he won't be able to fit in a number of the nooks & crannies that are available.

The trials & tribulations of fish keeping... I recently sold off two "extra" GT's that I had in my quarantine tank and moved my hoplo catfish to the main display.
All was well.
I left the QT vacant for about a week. Then I added 5 Silver Flying Foxes. I figured there would be a mini-cycle that I could manage via large volume water changes until the bacteria colony got up to size.
What I did not notice was that the heater I was using was malfunctioning.
Woke up this morning to do a big water change before work (less than 12 hours in tank) and all 5 flying my foxes were dead.
I thought it was ammonia poisoning until I put my hand in the tank and realized I had cooked these guys. The water was super hot.
My thermometer only read 79 F, but when I got a new thermometer and double checked it read 104 F.
I feel terribly stupid.
Came home from work to a pleasant surprise though. The GT's are spawning again and my male L144 pleco is caring for a clutch of eggs as well.
