75G South American stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How would ull stock a 75G amercian cichlids
Is there any geos I can keep with different fish
I just thought I'd have more options with a 75G
My wife doesn't even know yet

I love 75 gallons for the most part, but they are kinda at the lowest end up sizes for keeping heros and med-large geos. You could maybe get away with a second rotkeil as they are the smallest of the heros, especially if you do 3 or so geos.

Unfortunately when they are young the tank is going to look empty. I have a 75 grow out with 5-6 2.5" geo tapajos/winemilleri, a 2.5" rotkeil, a couple angels, and a small l027 pleco and it doesnt seem that stocked. hahaha

You could start with more and either upgrade your tank after a while, or trade some in at a later date, but you run the risk of becoming attached. If you dont have the means to upgrade and you are attached its not good for them. Just general observations I have noticed, I dont know you at all :D

^^ I like this idea... as sometimes you will lose a few for various reasons or have smaller/less attractive fish from a group, or you could get a pair. Then you can shop in the disposable ones and keep the pick of the litter as it were. I am doing similar in my 100g to grow out some large CA cichlids to go in my 220g fahaka community tank. I have 1 Red Devil, 1 Orinoco peacock bass, 3 red tiger motagenses, 1 Senegalese birchir and a delhezi birchir... I cannot fit all of them on the big tank and give the aggression they may not get on with the fahaka etc so I am hedging my bets to get a few really top quality fish for the display tank... just an idea.

I would not add any more cichlids or fish with body mass, you'll see how full that tank is going to look when your fish get larger. You could add 6-8 tetras like rummynose for example, but other than that I wouldn't go and overstock the tank if you don't plan on getting a larger tank within the next year. Your current stock with some small tetras would be a nice complete tank IMO. just my .02

Thanks for the advance everyone. My tank is currently filled up with 75% of what(check if there's any leak which I doubt
Can I use black sand for my geos?
Do they need any special care?
