Ideas for Stocking New Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep a supposedly Red Texas (That has not turned red yet) in the same 150gl as my two Oscars. From what I researched prior to getting it, you should be able to keep 3 or 4 in a 135gl. Apparently they are raised as food in some of the world because they can survive in tight places. Just be aware that they get fairly large, upwards of 12" or 16" depending if it's a male or female.

Mated pair of red tiger motagenses, red terrors or umbee (maybe too big) it will show amazing colours and eat very aggressively!

I'm really leaning to Polypterus, specifically Senegalus and Delhezi.
Also kind of thinking about putting some Datnoids in there too for a bit more excitement.
Will depend what I can get my hands on lol

Those are two of the smaller polys, would do well in a 135. In fact I'd get way more than 2 in a tank that size. Maybe some ropes too check out magpie magpie 's threads her ropes are really awesome. I can't speak too much about Datnoids except that they are common tank mates for polys.

Yeah, I specifically wanted the smaller species so they could turn around comfortably in the tank. I hate having to see fish almost fold in half to turn around because they're longer than the tank is wide.
I was thinking of putting maybe around 5 or so, depending on if I can find Dats as well. I've looked into Rope Fish a bit too, in fact they had some young ones in the store when I picked up my tank. Neat little guys for sure.
