The bacteria from bd will affect the colonies in your filter.. it's not a run out after 2 weeks type deal

Nitrite and ammonia zero after a week and nitrates rising very modestly .. will be moving a cycled filter that's currently with the fry over to the tank when the fry go in .. very quickly .. warmer column bacterial bloom lasted only a day
So it was fully cycled in a week?

Hmm there's a reef supply place nearby that sells this stuff. Might have to go pick some up to try and solve my other screwup, and save the leftover to try and seed a denitrator when I get aroundt o building it :o Stuff seems too good to be true though

I was just reading a thread on reef central and these guys are adding plain old sugar to the tank and it drops the nitrates ...

Would it work in freshwater they were saying that you had to have a good protein skimmer which isn't an option for us ..

There are heterotrophic and autotrophic denitrifying bacteria .. if running in a carbon biopellet aerobic format my understanding is that you are encouraging heterotrophs in large volumes which need to be used in conjunction with a protein skimmer .. if you opt for a reductor or anaerobic high volume very finely porous nitrate filter a low carbon dosing regime might improve efficiency and as the nitrates are released as n2 and the bacterial colony is fairly stable a protein skimmer isn't necessary .. if using highly porous material I would say 20% should be replaced monthly or every 2months
