I visited several LFS's today for fun and this one flowerhorn really caught my eye. He was a juvenile, only around 3-4 inches, but had such a big hump and was so interactive when I came near his tank (was kept in a 10 gallon).

I have no idea about flowerhorns and I was wondering if you guys could give me some insight on his type/breed and if he's worth the pricetag of 130 dollars. He looks bigger than he is in these photos, he was definately a small guy (3-4 inches). Wondering how big these guys get as well, thinking of keeping him as a solo pet in a 55 gallon. If I do get him, I'd have to temporarily keep him in a 10 gallon like they are in the pet store while I sell my current stock.

I've seen other flowerhorns but their colors weren't nearly as vibrant as this one, he was kind of half red half blue'ish. Also they had another flowerhorn that I didn't take a picture of, same size but a lot more white/yellow/pink'ish color with no patterns, they were asking 200 for that. I'll post a google image link of an identical/similar one, please tell me if it's worth the pricetag.

Similar to the 200 dollar one found on google images.

It's a SRD. But an extremely nice one. Good quality. Lots of red across its head, some pearling across the head, and large hump. That fish will end up needing a 90 gallon + when it gets larger though

Yeah that's fair. Similar FH you see online will sell for around the same maybe more. And most of the time you'd have to figure $50+ for shipping. If you're looking to buy a FH I'd say it's a good deal

The guy at the LFS fed him minnows, i didn't really like that. Will he eat pellets or refuse them?

Hey man the fish is damn awesome and it is probably a high leanage super red dragon(HL SRD) it is a fair price for such a small and pure long body FH, in my opinion it is a AA+ type species as the flowerhorn on the middle is continuous and has got great flower on the KOK.

You can surely switch him on the pellets
As this is a pretty simple method, just feed him feeders that he was feeding when you bring him home and after he finishes them don't feed him for about 1 1/2 days and then just toss the pellets in the water with properly showing him the packet from where you take the pellets and then in due course for time he will be familiar with you and don't worry he will get along
