This is all depending on weather i can upgrade one of my existing tanks but would like to start researching now. Ive only kept some small cats like raphs or asian bumble bees. Had a red tail when i was a kid back when they were being stuck in 10 gal tank smh.

So im looking for a med sized cat or cats that can go in a 96 x 30 (width)

Can i keep a combo of the following or better off just one cat?

These are what i was thinking of a few jaguar cats, vulture, and bolt. Will the jags stay too small to be kept with a vulture/bolt ?

Any other cats you guys can suggest would be cool.

Other occupants would be a pearsei and vieja heterospilus.

Jag cats maybe too small to be kept with bolt/ culture catfish.

Can look at a group of ornate pims. DB junkie DB junkie had a group and they looked great and non-stop swimming. I had one and was active. Pretty catfish as well.

Vulture and bolts are good too. Sit around till the food comes. Still a decent sized catfish that can handle aggressive fish.

I'm sure thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter will have some good input.

Ornate pims can hang with the vulture ?

No, probably not gonna hang with them due to size and growth rate but was suggesting a group of ornates.

The ornate pims are super active and would look great swimming around on the bottom.

I don't know if the ornate could take any bullying from the cichlids so I'd be careful. Jag would be to small to be with the vulture for sure especially with there excruciatingly slow growth rate despite being greedy. I think the vulture is your best option, may not get along with the bolt due to similar looks, bolt cats don't like each other so may attack the similarly looking vulture.

I know 4-line pin can hold its own, upside down Asian cat can. Sun catfish maybe, I find they don't put up as much of a fight compared to the other two listed. You want something that'll get around a foot with a little attitude.

Let me think on this lol. But meanwhile you should go on pcf and put the size cap you're looking for and see what species catch your eyes while keeping in mind some things maybe slightly off, unlikely but there's a chance.

Pims when large should be ok with Pearson and vieja. Tolerant of other fish. I assume this but aggression can happen with any cichlid.

Plus the ones form rapps are larger than the Lfs.

Will see what other options are there.

Thx guys always wanted a vulture and bolt but as usual my favs always have some type of baggage.

How do bolts compare to vultures in activity level and personality ?

The pearsei doesnt really bother anyone but other cichlids most of my issues came from feedings but from the little i read on vultures their appetites wpuld be perfect to compete with the pearsei.

koltsixx koltsixx isde02 isde02 noticed you guys had some in the past

I believe vultures are more active. You'll probably like the vulture more. thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter has had both in both larger and similar sized set ups as the one your thinking of. He can help I'd say more I'd say. I feel like my earlier comment made it seem like don't get nothing over a foot, I said that because the cichlids won't get much bigger than that, but with your width, I'd say go no bigger than 20" cause with cats you have to consider their whiskers, which if touch both sides can make them skittish.

Do you like driftwood cats? Trachy are nice lol. They like to hide but when food hits you better hope the cichlids get to it first cause the Trachy is like a vacuum with its large mouth.
