hell all

I have two 40 gallontanks running into a common 55 gallon sump.

Can i add a third tank to the system without hurting my benificial bacteria? Just another tank with water.

It is currently a quarantine set up for my motoro. I donotwant to jeopardize her in any way.

Thx

Eddie

I usually had at least 3 to 5 tanks running on each of my sumps, and my tanks were in the 55 to 150 gal range, and my pumps usually had a rate of about 2000+gph. So if you pump is strong enough to keep turnovers at a decent rate, another tank should be no problem.
On the down side, if the fish in the new tank are not quarantined, whatever parasites or bacteria they "could" have can be spread throughout all tanks on the common sump.

Thx.

Adding a new tank to an existing system will not affect the bb in any way, will it?

Any yes, the pump is gtg. It is running at 50% now.

I understand the parasite issue. Thx

I have added different tanks at different times, and never had aa beneficial bacteria problem.
Always added a few rocks, some seasoned substrate or pieces of wood from existing tanks or sumps though.
One of the nice aspects of adding tanks to existing sumps, is never needing to cycle the new addition.
