I wouldn't say so. They are not the hardiest but IME easy to care for. If under 2", they may be more vulnerable, as most fish.

If a jag fits in their mouth, I'd not either. A full grown jaguar of say 8" may be swallowed by a 2' juruense, I reckon. My 3" jurs were able to down 2" pictus catfish despite them being pretty prickly.

Good food for thought. Juru get 3 feet ?

Guys we have a tradition of kind of getting everyone involved when picking out new fish. Poly shopping is always fun but usually boils down to my 7 yr old son making the decision lol

I wanna narrow this down to a list of 4 or 5 species and let them choose 2 or 3 soo all of the input was greatly appreciated. Its a pain in the butt to rehome a trouble maker after it gets named by one of the kids.

Started showing them this morning and the wife likes the vulture allot son loves all of them lol especially the jags.
Hes wanted both for a while haha

I think jurs never exceed 2', give or take.

Sounds like the fun part has commenced. :)

Look forward to hearing the final decisions. And hopefully you make a thread on the cats like you have for your bichirs ;)

I don't think jurs are particularly fragile as long as they're over 2-3" or so. They have a moderate growth rate and voracious appetites. They're definitely active predators. As long as they're not being actively bullied, they're reasonably hardy.
