Up in my area where I am from (Springfield MA), black bar silverdollars are becoming more and more popular and common. 95 percent of the time the only ones I'd see are thinbars. But there is one store that I go to that always has widebars. Sometimes their widebars have orange on their stomach and red spots on bar. The time I was able to get up there they had small widebars about 2''. I got the biggest one in the aquarium. He was 2'' when I got him and he is now about 3'' to 3 and a half inches. I currently have him with a large Redhook and 3 spotted silverdollars. I am planning on doing a Myleus exclusive tank so the spotted silverdollars will be going and I will be adding more redhooks and widebars. The tank is 125 gallons.
Back about 6 years ago, I got a widebar from Jeff Rapps and he was about 4'' when I got. He had no orange when I got him but he became like a red belly pacu by the time he hit 9''.
I really want my current widebar and my new ones coming in to have orange, what should I do to encourage orange color? Do all widebars get orange?
I've been feeding market shrimp, Yourfishstuff brine shrimp flakes, yourfishstuff blackworm flakes and sticks, and other market seafood like clams, etc that are left over from my saltwater fish.
From experience, my current redhook had no red markings until he got 5-6''.
What do you guys think? I personally love widebars with orange and big blue hooks.
Also, where could I find some widebars online? My local fish store is out and won't be doing any orders until after the 4th of July.
Are the widebars at aquascapeonline good, do they have the orange bellies?
Please any help on getting widebars orange is appreciated.
First pic is of my old widebar
second is of my new current one
Thanks
