This was sold to me for $10 as a Festae, but everything I see points me towards being a Mayan. Either way, it's a cool little fish with an attitude. Any help to ID would be greatly appreciated.

Don't mind Lemon, he's a camera whore.

Kind of hard to tell because of the stress bars, but it looks like a mayan to me based off head shape and eye spot on tail being more centered.
If you don't mind me asking what are stress bars that is the first time I have heard of them but on my black belt it went from one horazontal to the vertical bars. Was that because of stress

Yeah, the dark vertical bars are generally caused by stress. Mayans/festae have vertical bars normally so they always have light ones but dark coloration like that is usually stress related. Not the end of the world, a lot of fish have them for long periods of time when not dominant.

Oh thank you so much I noticed it when my black belt had changed. Hahah looked like a completely new fish

This guy went from tattered and pale, to darker. He/she doesn't appear to be all that stressed, but is definitely not the dominant fish in the tank. The Pike down in there is always harrassing him, and he returns the favor.

Mortal enemies.

Nice looking oscar

Thanks! That's Lemon, he was sold as a "Lemon Oscar" but I think he's really just a Lutino Red with the gray banding at the tips of the fins. There's also a 1.75" Wild Caught O in there too.
