I'm thinking of buying one for the aquarium I am about to build and I was wondering if it is any good

It's the only way to go. I have had one for a few years and don't know how I made it with out it. Water changes are so much easier.
Start the siphon and let drain in the sink no miss. To fill up adjust the temperature to tank from sink and reverse the flow add prime and your done.
It works really well. I started with an aqueon but the part that attaches to the hose connector thing for the tap was crap. If you have that one don't bother replacing that part. I replaced it with the python brand one for half the cost of an aqueon replacement piece and it fits the aqueon hose perfect with the adapter. I've had zero problems even with some abuse.
Much better than buckets. Although the water pressure in here is bad so I have to use the outside tap to drain at all or fill if I need to do it fast. Fish are surprisingly ok with somewhat cold water changes, just fill slow.

I just buy a drinking safe hose and use that. Drain into a toilet, out the door, etc. Then fill as you normally would.
Oh, forgot to mention I always drain it into the yard. Plants love nitrates!
My end of the python is connected to a hose quick connector and the end of hose also.
So after draining , remove the python portion connect to a U pvc pipe and the end connect to my tap.

I purposely put my tank next to the window so I can run my tank water to my plants. And I just use a garden hose attached to my kitchen sink to refill. Fast and easy. A python would be a tad easier, but my system I have going now was way cheaper
