My GT doesn't like my family...

So interesting behavior from Kai the other day which I have never seen before. Just wondering if anyone else has similar experience.

My brother (looks alot like my) and my nephew (2 years old) come over for a visit. First time to our place (we love far away from eachother).

My nephew is near the tank watching Kai go bananas trying to attack him! I call my brother over to check it out and after my nephew leaving the area Kai now wants at my brother...

I get them both to back up from the tank and I go near to see how he will react and he calms down like right away. Call over the wife and get her to go say hi to Kai. He acts super chill with her and that day was no different.

Nephew goes back to the tank and Kai is all puffed up and at the glass trying to eat him lol.

Never seem him this aggressive, ever. I have put my face right up to the glass the odd time and he gets a little pissed with me but never like what I saw with my family.

Wierd or just a cichlid being badass?

I would like to think he is doing his duty of protecting his family. He doesn't know them, therefore they are a threat and he must eliminate them.

My green terror is always doing that he hates me and my girlfriend he's always trying to fight with us anytime we go near the tank

It's wierd because we have other guests and he doesn't mind them.

How old and big is your gt? Got any pics or video? I have a feeling Kai will get more aggressive as he ages. He seems to be good with me though.

My flower horn used to do this. I don't think we give their eyesight and intelligence enough credit.

I will be the first to admit that when I first got into the hobby I had no clue. Even after keeping many community fish I saw a bit of personality and such but nothing like this.

It's only been since keeping and raising Kai up (had him for almost 9 months now) that I really starting to have a better understanding of just how smart these creatures are.

I know not all fish are created equal but my opinion has changed a ton in terms of their overall intelligence. I hope that we as humans continue to learn more about the different animals we share this planet with and learn to appreciate them, instead of abusing them.

Same here. I didn't get a good level of respect until I started keeping cichlids and realizing that they know what's going on around them. It's amazing

So the gf and I got back from out bike ride today to find Kai in a mood, he i s trying to kill us both and the dog as usual. In a really feisty mood, never seen him like this towards us.
