hi guys since I don't want a stingray or a bichir for a bottom feeder I recently saw some fire eels and I tought wow what a looker but I read they where burrowers what came to mind were khuli loach which you never see so my question is can I just provide it a plastic cave then have no substrate for it to burrow so I can see it more often so guys is it ok to keep fire eel with no substrate? Hehe

I've owned several fire eels with arowanas and none of them burrowed. This is probably something they do when they are super tiny. Just make sure you have a large enough tank, as all my fire eels liked to constantly swim all over the tank and sometimes if it's too small of a tank, the arowana can get bothered and jump/dart.

Oh ok the arowana I'm getting is a bit small still about 6" so is the fire eel plan to put them in a 18"x18"x48" for awhile then move them to a 24"width x31"heightx60"length when they grow up plan also to put an 4" oscar in there but I want bare bottom is it ok if I have driftwood and plastic caves?

How long do you mean by "a while" in the 67 gallon? You have an asian aro right? I don't know the growth rates of those but they will outgrow a 67, while an eel will grow very fast (2 inches per month.) You don't have a lot of time.

As for a 200 gallon (5 x 2 feet wide), it's not a plan for either a "grown" asian or a "grown" fire eel. A 200 is far from optimal.

Again, grown means different things to different people, but imo you'll need to look for a much bigger tank for a long-term solution.

Let me add...

When full grown, assuming a 27" Asian, a 33" fire, and a 12" Oscar, a 200-gallon will get 10 ppm of nitrates a day. That works out to around a 60% water change every other day, more of course, if any of those get's larger.

Oh ok what about just an aro and a marbled catfish my lfs said peruno but I've heard their mistaken for other species some times but will my 5 foot suffice for just the two of them sorry I have the financial means for a larger tank but not the room as me and my bf only live in a condo 5th floor we already have a 327g South American cichlid tank a 75g with a wolf fish in it and planning for 21" width x 24"height x 54" length for our oscar , convict, green terror , and jack Dempsey community so we only have room for one more tank both cichlid tank is my boyfriends I'm the one into monster fish only the wolf fish is mine so I wanted another tank with an aro and a bottom dweller

What do u suggest for a bottom dweller if cannot fit don't like the look of both stingrays and bichirs that's why I'm looking for alternatives we tried bichirs before but in our exp their so hard to pellet train our water got so cloudy

Oh hi gallantry:p:p still having trouble with bottom feeder will a peruno and an aro fit in the 5 foot I've managed to convince my bf to get a smaller tank for his oscars and give me back my 5 foot tank hehe

just curious, wouldn't that be the job of the filter?
