New cichlid tank.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm going for I need cleaning type but still attractive bottom feeders I think. You really think the pictus would survive? Are there any other loaches you would recommend? I find the clown loach rather unappealing in appearance lol.

There are other Pim species besides the Pictus that gets larger but tbh don't have experience with them.

So not true, no no no lol.

180 and go with a drilled 180 with sump, skip the cans especially with O's.

What's your thoughts on tanks that come with the overflows built in? Are there any that would be good for a cichlid tank or any design that just works particularly well or should I do a custom design? I'm fairly handy and id love to set up a sump but I don't know the second thing about how.

Yoyo's don't seem to get quite as big but still big enough to not be food. I'm not 100% in all the loaches, I only keep CLs. I'm also fairly certain as long as you provide minimal cover that the pictus can get to but the O's can't they'll be fine. Anyone who's tried to catch one in a net can confirm their speed and maneuverability is amazing.

I love the lima. Ive never even looked at those. Would one fit in either the 150 tall or the 180? Or just the 180? Seeing as they're both 24" wide.

What's your filter set up look like for a tank like this?

Just did a little research on the Lima and was stated to get about 2 ft. Other members will chime in on this species.

I have a Marineland dual corner overflow 180 with herbie drains with a 40 breeder for a bare bones sump. No real reason to go custom at this size but for aesthetics. If you need advice on how to set one up it's all in setup and filtration. Don't be afraid to ask in there. To be honest, this is my second tank with a sump and I will never buy another can. The switch out of a couple filter socks is so much ridiculously easier compared to cleaning cans. One thing I'd try for though is a 36" stand so you can use your 75 as a sump if you want or just get another 75. The added volume in water and height for the socks is something I missed.

Ok awesome. Great information here. I have a 42" stand and the 75 would go right under it but the only issue would be housing for my oscars while I set it all up lol. Id also have to modify said stand to accommodate the bigger tank so we'll see I suppose.

Pimelodus blochii are another nice pim.
They get a little bigger than pictus.I have kept them with large s/a cichlids without issues.

I would say stick to the 180 gal
I have a 135 gal and I filter it with a Cannister filter and a 29 gal sump with ceramic bio media, bio balls, and also filter sock with filter pads powered by a pump that shoots back up and into the tank thru the output in the overflow. The water overflows into the overflow and there I have a stand pipe that sucks up the water and drains it into the sump

Yes most certainly go with the 180. For bottom feeders, how about some synodontis euruptus? Gorgeous cats that grow the perfect size to keep with Os
