Anyone have the same problem like me. I have 3 eartheaters. 1 Daemon and 2 jurupari about 7". They are kept in a 135gallon with tons of dithers. 20 giant danios and 43 tiger barbs plus 10 different loaches. You would think that with all these dithers they wouldn't be so damn skittish!! I'm at the point where I'm gonna sell or trade them in cause I can't even enjoy the tank without them darting around. I actually enjoy my son"s guppy tank more now. I need a new show piece that won't hide 24/7! Help

Maybe there are way too many dithers? Sounds like an awful lot to me. Also, do they have adequate hiding spots? Geophagus/satanoperca are not usually overly skittish, I'm thinking it's something about your setup that makes them feel uncomfortable. Mind posting a picture?

Both ends of the tank have hiding places and I left the middle open. I'll get a tank shot in a bit here.

Could be your Tiger barbs bothering them to much. TB''s have a reputation for being nippy. Move them and see if that helps. To answer your question anyone else ever have this yes our Tiger Motoa's were very shy.

If you add a fish, make it a snakeskin gourami. I agree with wild bill wild bill that it is probably the tiger barbs. I have heard of them doing this to far more assertive fish.

Remove the cover and see if that helps. Too many places to hide. If that does not correct the problem and you do want another type of cichlid, try discus. If you can keep your geo's healthy, discus will be easy for you. They are small pigs, always out and looking for food. Just have high enough numbers of them.

If I remove most of the cover, then my loaches and plecos won't have any places to hide. I could try removing a few bigger rocks and open up a little space on the right side to see if that helps. I've been wanting a Daemon and jurupari for ever and now I finally have them so really don't want to get rid of them unless it really doesn't work out.

I haven't noticed them nipping the geos but have seen them chase the giant danios here and there. Will have to keep an eye on them to see ifs that the reason. If so then guess my brother will get some new dithers.
