What is the consensus on the minimum tank size for a single pair of green terrors if you want them to breed?

IMO never go for the minimum. Go for the biggest you can get. A 6' tank like a 125g is good. If you shop around on CL, or FB you may find a really good deal. Heck I traded a 72g and 55g for my current 150g. But some people on CL are ridiculous. I've seen people try to sell 55gs for the price of a new 125g at Pet smart lol.

Well to answer the question, minimum would probably be 75 gallons.
Most people aren't particularly fond of minimums here. But if you divide the tank with a hole only the female can get through and have plenty of hiding spots for her the male can't get into, you could probably do it in a 75. 125 would be better as the people above me stated.

Sadly I'm limited on length due to area that I place the tank. The max room I have is 4 ft so the largest size I go is 120g (48x24x24). I could go wider or taller but that would likely require a custom aquarium

I think that could work too. I think width is as important as length for aggression. Total water volume matters too.

A lot will depend on the temperament of the fish you buy.
Give it a go and see how they get on.

Yea, you can find some really great deals on CL, Facebook, Offer Up, and Letgo! It's one of the best things about the hobby.
I hate the people who overprice and charge way more than a new tank. It seems all they are after is the money.
As mentioned a good starting point would be a 75 gallon, but the saying is true bigger the better. A 120 gallon is perfect.
