Advice on breeding flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Put a 8 inch ceramic dish in for the eggs. Lower flow rate , and bare bottom.

The eggs could have been infertile from either the blood parent or the flowerhorn hard to tell
thanks! Any preference on a mate? Female fh? Blood parrot? Purple rose queen?

Most female bp and FH will be fertile, however the males not always but commonly pose the issue. Female bp and male flowerhorn is the way I go. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't happen the first time around.

i have a friend attempting to breed fh that sparked my interest to do so, hes tried bp prq and female fh. No dice yet but ive been told the first batch of eggs most of the time get eaten or dont get fertilized. Would a 40b be good or should i go 75?

Yeah the first batch will probably never get fertilize and that's even if the eggs are fertile. The bigger the tank the better less water parameters swings which are very important to protect the the eggs from conducting fungus and bacteria infections

Cool thanks #.$ #.$ ill give this a try!

I never successfully got mine to breed but I can tell you most of my failures were due to a fungi infection. Oftentimes new parents don't know how to properly care for the eggs and leave eggs that are unfertile which will eventually rot and could infect the rest of the batch
