What kind of Oscar is this?

This Oscar was labeled ''Wild Caught Peru Oscar''.
Do you think this is a Wild Caught peru Oscar, maybe even F1?

If the original owner got it from a respected provider like Jeff Rapps, it may be a possibility be wild, and there may still be a paper trail (receipt with provenance).
If its a LFS turn-in I doubt that looks alone will give any worthwhile info.
The oscar below is feral in a pond in Florida, if you weren't told, could you tell it wasn't S America?

Yes, he is about 2.5-3''.

He looks very much like my juvi oscar.
He could very well be a Florida oscar. I got him from the LFS.

They can, especially if the LFS gets Wild South American fish.

It's impossible to tell visually if a fish is F1. Only way is from the source you bought it from.

I think w/c Oscars are imported on a pretty regular basis. They are available from reputable sources on a regular basis. In my opinion, there is no way to tell if a fish is w/c just by looking at it, so if it is a trade in at a LFS, I would be skeptical.

I agree it is possible that a LFS could get wild oscars, although there are plenty of breeders who would be far more economical
For instance Wet Spot Tropicals has many wild caught Peruvian fish on their list, and Jeff Rapps has wild Orinioco Oscars.
Are these your average aquarist buys? the prices of wild fish may be a bit higher than most people would be willing to pay.
That said someone in your area may have bought a group of wilds to breed, and when a pair was found, thinned the heard, or ??????

Here he is today, has grown a bit. Colors are shaping up to look like a florida wild or maybe f1 wild but a nice unique oscar love him.
