Any info on these. Want to add a catfish to my tank. I am being offered one of these in the 10 to 12 inch range. I have saw in planet catfish information. I am just wandering if anybody here has personal experience. Tankmates, feeding, growth rates, are they threats to tank mates. Thanks any information to help my decision would be appreciated.

Pteradoras granulosus are peaceful, I wouldn't expect it to bother tank mates or try to eat any fish. There could be an exception if some small fish was nibbling a pellet and the cat came along and gulped the pellet taking the fish with it I suppose. The one I have hangs out under cover until lights out and then it cruises like a shark. Mine put on an inch a month until it hit around the 12" mark then it slowed down slightly. Mine eats all sorts of sinking pellets, veggies that are in the tank for the plecos, and earthworms. They aren't too fussy.

I have 2 of these at about 4" in size right now. Very mellow. Typically a nocturnal fish but as they settle come out and eat with light on. Very greedy and will take just about anything. I would say any tankmates would be fine long as they are not to aggressive and big enough not to be eaten. I would say these have grown at a rate of 1" a month. Overall great catfish if you have the space.

Hey bud, yes, I agree with the guys' input above. They are quite peaceful as a rule, extremely easy to feed, unfussy bottom scavengers, and rather slow-growing, especially after they get up to a foot, as our peers had said above. I've had a trio in 4500 gal for 2 years now. For some reason one is ~20"-22", the other two are ~14"-16".

The biggest I have seen in captivity was 2'. It doesn't mean they don't get bigger but it will likely take many years.

They are more outgoing and less shy than irwini catfish but less so than ever-foraging and never-hiding niger catfish. These are their two most common, most similar, and closest related catfish in the hobby.

Interesting greenish hue on that grannie. I don't recall ever seeing such color on them but it's a subject to great many factors, so I am not too surprised.
