Ok so seeing as ive recently got to the filtration stage on my 600g for my saratoga and ray
I will have a freee 6x2x2 now who doesnt like that
Well australia has had a sorta exotics burst more availabilty to gars like spotted and birchers like sens and ornates
Would these 3 be a good mix?
For a 180g? If so how many?

Sens and ornates would be fine but probably not together long term as ornates can get much larger. I think 2 or 4 ornates would look very cool

A florida Gar would be fine for awhile but not for life. Lower Jaw or larger upper Jaw Birchers would be no problem. The Senegal polys wouldn't do well with larger polys especially the Lower Jaw group.

Im pretty sure Slayer2533 Slayer2533 is from down under mayne he can help find some lower jaws

Bichirs are awesome, I would recommend some lower jaws or ornatipinnis, and you could keep a big American cichlid in there with them like a vieja or whatever you like (except maybe dovii or umbee)

You could do some lower jaw ploys with a group of dats, that would look good.

I recently learned about spotted pike characins which would work for a 180 - they look gar-like but can live for life in a 180. Not sure if you can get them, though.

Only place I ever see Poly's for sale in Australia is www.gumtree.com.au. Occasionally pet stores get them in but usually they are Senegal's. The problem here is it is illegal to import bichir's to Australia but its ok if they are already in Australia or captive bred. I can't say whether my stock is all captive bred or illegally imported by previous owners etc. I currently keep 2 ornates, 2 tiger bichirs and 3 senegal's in my main tank. I also have a smaller ornate in a grow out tank. So far I don't have any aggression issues or massive size differences between all species so at this stage I am not concerned about a lower jaw eating a sen or smaller ornate. But in saying that my two tiger bichirs and ornates are really starting to pack on the size at the moment and in the future I will most likely need to move the senegal's but I will keep an eye on it for now.

Hey guys thanks for the replys my locals have ornates in stock all the time and theres a few on pet link including a
Lapradei bircher and a few ornates
Would discus be ok? Ive never been to much into cichlids more cichla would love a datnoid but still very pricey for them here
Thanks
