Updates from the 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the pikes are pretty variable in terms of personality, as the amphilophus can be as well. Like you said, some are calm, the majority are pretty aggressive, some are psycho. I have seen pikes which hid all day. I have had a large johanna who did not hide much, but mostly "chilled" and wasn't particularly active. My pikes that I currently have, are crazy active and devour anything that touches the water including pellets, begging for more when I stop dropping them in.
I think a wild Oscar sounds like the best fit of the options to me. Would be a nice addition.

Im just going to have to wait until someone gets some in that I would like. Years back Wet Spot had crassipinnis and Rapps had the orbicularis but now the market is pretty much devoid of good looking wild caughts. i would even take a red bahia oscar....

Right now Wet spot has wc 'Columbia' which I have no idea what they look like as adults and Rapps has "Orinoco" which I guess look dark and bland when grown. So I will patiently wait for a wild caught variant I want

I have seen the "Orinoco" variants which get metallic red or yellow spangling along their sides,I actually think those are very pretty. Guess it's all personal preference, the crassipinnis are probably my favorites though. Good luck finding one, have not seen those available in a long time

So this is just a written update and some observations. No new pics, just some already posted.

As my projects are almost to completion since the weather change, Ive had more time with the tanks. I had got to the point where I was feeding the polys about twice a week and they got one large water change a week. They pretty much lost all the girth they had which was pretty much fat and look lean but not emaciated like you see sometimes with a new poly.

I have been slowly trying to increase the feedings but notice they were so used to the light feedings that there is food laying around now. Im in the process of getting back to the routine with heavier feeding and multiple water changes. Im trying to get some size on these guys again.

An old pic of the Ansorgii. Look at the gut on it! This guy could pack away Massivore like crazy.

It seems like all my polys have hit the wall and are growing slowly. The Endli is still the largest and in charge but at last check was only 18". The rest of the polys are in the 15"-16" category. But I do tend to underestimate so who knows maybe larger.

Sup DMD123 DMD123 nice to see you back more often in MFK, i miss doing a bump here, lol
Hey, good to be back. I think clm08k clm08k has become the official bumper now, your out the job, lol. Seriously its good to see you active here despite the setback. You still have the smaller tank with uppers? Need pics! We need to bump you!

Lol, i loss a poly and the bumper job, haha:D

I try to be active again but seeing some polys here make me sad and makes me poly ich worst, lolz.

I actually sold all my sons UJ, i felt bad cause after losing my big tank, my passion for the hobby was not the same no more, i felt bad for my sons fish cause i felt like i didnt take care of them for 3 weeks, no food and no water change so basiclly i neglected my sons fish.
So i talked to my son if i can sell his fish cause i feel bad for them that im not taking care of them properly, my son said yes i can sell them but i need to find another fish for him.
So now i have him some discus and tetras in his tank, plus since ive lost my Big tank, ive been hanging out with pips that breed discus.

Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 , I've had those moments in fishkeeping where the passion was not the same. For me it was when I was still fairly new to the hobby and purchased two wild caught cichlids and introduced them into my tank without first doing a qt. Could not tell you which one of the fish it was but it brought something in that decimated almost an entire population of fish. Only survivors were two red hook silver dollars. Having to break down my 210g to disinfect everything was a pretty harsh blow and since the tank was empty... made me feel like I should sell it. The loss of my prized Midas was the hardest hit. So I understand to some extent what you are going through. Hang in there and when the time is right you will find another tank and more polys.

Hey buddy! Nice to see the fishies are doing well... Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 hang in there. Take DMD123 DMD123 's wisdom to heart. He is a good dude and has given me great advice when I felt bad about some fish related tough times. :)

FishBeast FishBeast , hey long time no see. How is everything going? Any progress on the 210? I totally want to see how your endli is progressing!

Edit: lol, just saw your update post. They all look great!

He is really mean! The others have learned to stay away, including the Koloton. But at least the aggression is diffused so no single fish gets beat up too much.
