Tank really hot when I got home need help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Stressed knife, beginnings of algae, possibly unusually warm tank.

What's your ammonia, no2, no3? The algae and apparent stress on the knife suggest a possible spike in some undesirable level.

I agree that the knife looks more like bullying and/or coral scrapes than ammonia burn, but I'd really like to know the parameters on this tank just so we can rule out the water as either the cause or a contributing factor.

If ammonia was bad more fish would show distress, that water is far too warm for most fish there, I never go above 78-80 for my tanks. 84 is good for discus due to their nature but anything else it can be unecessary.

Having gravel, sharp decor and lots of bottom dwelling cichlids can't help surely. My knifefish had a massive boost when I changed gravel out for sand

He’s looking better but I lost my gold nugget
I would definitely test the water. If you are losing other fish, that makes me think less that the knife smashed into the coral, and more that you probably have ammonia or another harmful chemical in the tank
