Convicts or similar to end fish keeping woes?

What I wouldn’t give to be able to find a bunch of females for my Andinocara sp “Choco” male.

The bars fade in and out, and my pics do zero justice to the spangling on his sides.

If you can find some of these ;)

Nice fish!

Rapps has A. septemfasciata. I don't think they look as good as panamensis, but rapps has sexed pairs available.

Do you know what current taxonomy is with that group of fish is? I'm not seeing Cryptoheros any longer?

Septemfasciata, along with most of the other former cryptoheros, have been reclassified amatitlania.
I have panamensis, not having luck with them breeding so far. I think it's because there are other dominant cichlids in the tank, but that wouldn't stop convicts. I'm thinking they are a bit less prolific.

Thank you for weighing in.

That sounds like how nanoluteus is. Beautiful fish, but timid.

I have all, but decided to do standard convicts.

The other option is some type of acara. I wanted wild blue acaras (A. pulcher), but I don't see them. I see tank raised blue acaras on some lists, but I am nervous to buy tank raised specimens sight unseen.

Who is the go to for wild acara types? Rapps?

Wild A. pulcher are rare. Most people opt for the domestics because they’re cheap. I think Jeff had them once this year but I could be mistaken. He’d be the best source.

What a shame. I watched a video that a member here posted of wild A. pulcher. They were really nice. I think that gentleman is located in Canada.

I was just about to pull the trigger on a group of wild blue acara, but I found some f1 P. pulcher and thought I would give those a shot.

I ended up ordering:
8 P. pulcher
6 C. sajica (they are pretty small)
12 Colombian Tetras

I hope the C. sajica do well for me. I look forward to growing them out. I have seen several pictures of beefy males that I would love to own.
