240 Uniquarium Setup & Stocking

well i bought through petsmart as there was a great sale going on (20% off aat tanks+$30 shipping for mine). i think the company was called "fleet" but im not sure. anyways the thing was packed amazingly as you can see, had like 3 inches of bubble wrap and a couple cardboard layers all wrapped in steel bindings. not a scratch on her.

i may run a drain through the center of this tank eventually for a kinda middle of the room setup. thats ultimately why i didnt do the uniquarium. it looks like a sweet setup though. i may go for one next time theyre on sale. that 300 uni is particularly enticing....
 
That really looks like a lovely tank.

And now i can't get the concept of the uniaquarium out of my head :D Any details on how the filtration actually works? :)

Yeah, in the first post I outlined the overview of how the internal sump will work. I can’t say much more than that until I get to experience it first hand. Long story short it is a wet/dry with 2 towers of bio balls. Hoping it handles everything as expected!

Ha, I bought mine through petsmart too. They had that same 20% off, but then I caught them with another “flash sale” that added an extra 20% on top of that. So I got it brand new for 40% off
I truthfully thought it was a mistake and that somebody would call me and be like “Sorry, that was a price issue, blah blah” then 4 weeks went by and I hadn’t heard from anyone, so I called AAT to see if they even had an order for it and sure enough they did.

if im reading the specs right it comes with 3 pumps? does that mean 3 plugs or maybe they're all wired together? seems like they couldnt just do one big pump because of the thin space to work with in back.

that is awesome you caught that. i also saw the 40% off sale but had already ordered my tank and was kicking myself. it was at the tail end of the first sale i believe.

i shouldve got another one.

They are standard pumps, no special wiring. All have their own plug. This is for a handful of reasons though, the first of which is redundancy. Second, it gives you more variation in directional flow, as it has an individual output nozzle for each pump as well. Last but not least, the pump compartment isn't huge, so I imagine that had a little bit to do with pump choice, and pricing. I am sure they get the RIOs DIRT cheap since they buy so many of them.

I did get lucky. I was truthfully going to try my hand at building my own acrylic tank, but oddly enough nobody around me sells 3/4" cell cast acrylic by the sheet. I could only find 1/2" and it was $590 + tax for each sheet, plus a few $ per cut. Which meant I was already @ $1770, before tax for 3 sheets. It just made sense to do it this way when I found the price.

the separate nozzles are definitely nifty, but all the plugs would annoy me honestly. its not a dealbreaker though.

im also starting a foray into building an acrylic tank. i found 3/4" sheets 8'x4' for about 700 locally. but i am nervous about the build because ive never done it and its going to be a bowfront which could be challenging. for the price you got on that uni I'd say you saved yourself some work and money though.
